Background: The Dallas Cowboys
are one of the most successful franchises in NFL
history. Overall the Dallas Cowboys are one of
the most popular teams in the entire world. Annually
the Dallas Cowboys travel to Mexico and at times
have played in front of over 100,000 fans. Dallas
Cowboy merchandise is sold in the millions each
and every year. The Dallas Cowboys are nicknamed
“America’s Team.” America’s
Team has had its ups and down over the years.
For the first 28 years of their existence, the
Dallas Cowboys only had one coach, the magical
Tom Landry. Tom Landry led the Dallas Cowboys
to the Super Bowl five times and won twice. Tom
Landry is considered to be one of the best NFL
coaches in history. It was merely a formality
when Tom Landry was elected to the Hall of Fame.
His career came to an end right before the 1989
season when businessman Jerry Jones took over
the club. The team had not made it to the playoffs
since 1985. Jerry Jones proceeded to clean house
but the rebuilding paid off almost immediately.
The Dallas Cowboys would win 3 Super Bowls in
4 years during the 1990s. However, the Cowboys
are once again in the rebuilding stage with their
5 coach since Tom Landry was let go. The legendary
Bill Parcells has taken over the ranks and with
just one season under his belt, the Dallas Cowboys
returned to the playoffs and lost to the eventual
NFC Champion Carolina Panthers. This year the
expectations of the Cowboys are sky high.
