Background:
Most teams rebuild. The Raiders reload or at least that's
the hope this off-season after coming off a franchise-worst
4-12 campaign.
With the signing of former Giants starting quarterback Kerry
Collins, they have acquired newcomers at nearly every position
this off-season -- and have prompted much speculation on the
future of 2002 league MVP Rich Gannon. At any rate, they have
put themselves in a position to make last year an aberration
and not the start of a bad era in Oakland.
In one season, the Raiders are bringing in a new head coach,
quarterback, two running backs, offensive linemen, a defensive
coordinator, and defensive performers in every unit and implementing
a new scheme. If the prominent additions and returners play
at a high level, Oakland's in good shape. But sort of like
staying healthy, that's always a big if.
