Team: Seattle Seahawks
Sport: Pro Football (NFL)
Stadium: Seahawks Stadium
Head Coach: Mike Holmgren
Super Bowls: None
Background:
The Seahawks spent the off-season upgrading a
defense that was frequently porous, particularly
away from home last season. They were middle of
the pack in points allowed (20.4 ppg) and surrendered
at least 27 in all but two of their road contests,
including the 33-27 overtime playoff loss at Green
Bay.
Perhaps the biggest priority in curbing their
defensive ineptitude was addressing the line and
secondary. Seattle bolstered its line with the
signing of defensive end Grant Wistrom and the
drafting of defensive tackles Marcus Tubbs and
Craig Terrill. The Seahawks also re-signed tackle
Cedric Woodard.
Last year, they got solid production from 2003
first-rounder Marcus Trufant, but were aggressive
this off-season in searching for a veteran cornerback
and eventually signed Bobby Taylor. With Trufant,
Taylor and nickel back Ken Lucas, Seattle should
be well equipped to handle the explosive receiving
tandems it'll face against NFC West foes Arizona
and St. Louis.
